A note from Sophie Robinson, our Registered Manager.
I graduated from Northumbria University in 2011 after completing a degree in Psychology. I then started my career working in a young offender’s prison in Rugby with 12-18 year olds. After moving back to Newcastle in 2013 I started working at St Nicholas hospital in Gosforth as a mental health support worker. It was always an ambition of mine to work in a children’s home so I decided to leave the hospital and began working in children’s homes in 2015 and I really enjoyed being able to make a difference in the daily lives of those children. I completed NVQ level 3 in residential childcare and quickly became a senior residential childcare worker working in a home with children and young people who had experienced early childhood trauma and disruption. I then moved within the group to work in a home that specialised in looking after younger children, some of whom also had complex needs and diagnoses such as ASD and ADHD. Although this created a new challenge in me, it was incredibly rewarding.
I started working at Talbot House Trust in April 2019 and became Registered Manager at Chadersley the following September, since then I have completed my NVQ level 5 in Leadership and Management. The young people we care for here are given every opportunity we can afford them, I am proud to say that our staff team are more than happy to give a lot of themselves to their work and the result is children who are happy, safe and well cared for.
